LAZARIDES RATHBONE WELCOMES PARISIAN ARTIST AND TED PRIZE WINNER JR BACK TO LONDON WITH CROSSING, AN EXHIBITION OF ALL NEW WORK FROM THE ACCLAIMED SERIES OF LES BOSQUETS (2014–PRESENT) AND UNFRAMED ELLIS ISLAND (2014–PRESENT).

The exhibition feature a mix of color prints as well as the artist's signature wood mounted monochromatic paper pieces. Visitors are invited to experience the world of JR through the juxtaposition of these two unique series of all new work, along with his last movie 'Ellis'. In 2014, JR was invited by the New York City Ballet to create a large-scale art installation in collaboration with the Company dancers for their 2014 Art Series. Following the success of these installations, JR launched Les Bosquets in collaboration with the New York City Ballet making his debut as a choreographer. Succeeding this NYC-based ballet series, JR produced a unique photographic series of the Opéra de Paris ballet dancers shot on the roof of the Paris Opera house. JR's new series of artworks featuring Les Bosquets draws from images of these interventions in New York and Paris.

At the top floor of the Gallery, visitors can watch JR's last movie "Ellis". This was the best part of the exhibition for me, as at that time the movie was not available online, so you had to go to the museum or the gallery to actually see it. An excellent idea to encourage people to go to art institution. The Unframed Ellis Island project seeks to commemorate the stories of millions of immigrants who entered the United States via Ellis Island. Collecting source materials from the Ellis Island archives, JR created a series of installations that bring to life the chronicles of those coming from all over the world. In addition, we had the pleasure to watch the JR whole new short film called Ellis and featuring Robert de Niro.

This is the trailer for ELLIS, a short film starring Robert De Niro, written by Eric Roth, directed by JR. The short narrative film, ELLIS, awakens our collective memory. Leaving their past behind them, immigrants fleeing poverty, discrimination, dictatorship arrived there. Ellis Island was the gateway to the United States for millions of immigrants. Upon arrival, they were processed, approved or denied access. Due to sickness or simply tiredness, many were placed in the hospital. A purgatory of sorts, in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty, where thousands of men, women and children awaited their fate. ELLIS tells the forgotten story of these immigrants who built America while questioning about those who currently seek the same opportunities and safety in this country and other parts of the world. The short film stars Academy Award Winner Robert De Niro, was written by Academy Award winner Eric Roth and directed by the artist JR whose Unframed art installations in the abandoned Hospital complex serve as the set for this powerful and timely film.
